To support the growth of our team we are looking for an experienced medicinal chemist to drive small molecule drug discovery projects in the company offices in Leuven. Reporting to the Head of Medicinal Chemistry, the successful candidate will be responsible for the chemistry activities of projects, including the design of orally acting small molecules, the supervision of their synthesis, their characterization and profiling.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a PhD in organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry, in the field of heterocyclic and organometallic chemistry;
  • Have 8+ years medicinal chemistry experience in small molecule drug discovery, ideally across several projects in the CNS field;
  • Have a track record in bringing small molecules hits through lead optimisation stage and towards clinical candidate nomination;
  • Have experience in establishing effective relationships with key external medicinal chemistry partners to monitor chemistry activities, DMPK and safety profiling;
  • Demonstrate track record in resolving synthetic chemistry issues, route scouting & troubleshooting to facilitate collaboration with CROs;
  • Prepare chemistry plans, design new compounds, evaluate chemical feasibility and prior art;
  • Analyse and interpret chemical, biological, pharmacological and DMPK data to build Structure-Activity and Structure-Property relationships;
  • Have experience in using databases like Dotmatics, SciFinder, Patentscope and chemical softwares like Chemdraw, Datawarrior:
  • Survey literature on chemistry and biological targets;
  • Have experience in monitoring medicinal chemistry projects, prepare and present regular update reports in English for the team and the management;
  • Experience in computational chemistry, structural biology and/or structure-based drug design would be a plus.
